The
project has been completed…on time and on budget. The team has just met for the project post mortem and agreed that, even with a few inevitable glitches, the project was a success. The goals that were set at the beginning with the
approval of the executive team were met…and even exceeded.
Certainly
a team celebration is in order. Everyone worked hard and they deserve to enjoy
a team gathering that’s for fun not for solving problems or
overcoming obstacles. But what about you as team leader?
If
you want another plum assignment like this one, be sure not to hide your
success like a squirrel hides nuts for the winter. You need to find a way to
share the good news.
- Provide a report that documents the numbers.
- Welcome questions about how you did things “right.”
- Support the members of your team as they develop areas of expertise.
They performed well, will appreciate your recognition of a job well done and will be loyal when asked how you performed as project lead.
