If
your project depends, as most do, upon the effective collaboration of team
members, you need to consider the environment you create for your work
together. Did you know that even the design of your meeting room can affect how
you relate to and connect with one other?
Experts
tell us that the best seating plan for the sharing of ideas is a circle. This
is not a new concept…it has been adopted at the U.N. and at negotiating tables
around the world to establish the equality of participants. Of course, if the
objective is to try to dominate other parties, hopeful leaders will position
themselves at the head of the table.
This
is one aspect of a project that you can manage easily. Encourage participation
by the entire project team so you take advantage of each member’s expertise.
Don’t set up a divisive or competitive situation by arranging chairs in rows.
And don’t set someone up as better than the others with a seat at the table’s
end. You certainly don’t want the seating arrangement be a negative factor in your project post mortem analysis.
